Vates joins RISC-V International

“We have been impressed with Vates’ efforts to port Xen to RISC-V, opening up new virtualization capabilities for RISC-V silicon,” said Calista Redmond, CEO of RISC-V International. “As the RISC-V ecosystem continues to mature, having this type of open source virtualization expertise in our community is critical.”
Vates is proud to announce joining RISC-V International as a Strategic Member.
Strategic members are organizations that are integrating RISC-V and want to have their voice considered in the RISC-V technical direction.
As a long-lasting exponents of the Open Source way and as virtualization specialists, we are true believers in the vision of the RISC-V project making it possible to rely on an Open CPU architecture. Beyond that vision, we have displayed commitment to the RISC-V project over the last few months: our developer, Bobby Eshleman, is one of the Xen official maintainers to the port of RISC-V within the Xen Project in the Linux Foundation. Indeed, Vates is already leading efforts in the porting of the Xen Project, but as a strategic RISC-V Internal we will now be able to add our voice inside the RISC-V International organization.
Joining RISC-V International is also a way to participate in the vision of a world in which Open Source is available on every layer of the infrastructure, including the hardware. As a Strategic Member, we will be happy to participate in the technical discussions around the requirements that platform virtualization places on critical system components in the RISC-V ecosystem. Contributing to these discussions will not only allow us to prepare RISC-V hardware to be used for virtualization purposes, but also bring the knowledge required to best leverage the RISC-V architecture in our virtualization solutions.
Finally, joining RISC-V International is in complete accordance with our will to advance the world of Open Source by joining our efforts as Open Source software maintainers with those of Open Source hardware designers, and, in this way, take part in the next Open Source revolution in the digital industry.
Vates rejoint RISC-V International
