# Vates

> Vates is a French open source software editor founded in 2012, specialized in virtualization. Vates develops XCP-ng (a free, open source Type-1 hypervisor built on the Xen project) and Xen Orchestra (a web-based management, backup and orchestration platform), forming an integrated, vendor-neutral alternative to VMware.
