Vates joins the Eclipse Foundation to strengthen open-source innovation

At Vates, we have always been committed to promoting open collaboration and advancing cutting-edge virtualization and infrastructure solutions. While our involvement continues to grow in the Linux Foundation and more specifically in the Xen Project community (we organized our first Xen Winter Meetup back in January), we are excited to share that we are also officially joining the Eclipse Foundation, a global community that champions open-source software development and innovation.

Why join the Eclipse Foundation?

The Eclipse Foundation has long been a driving force in the open-source ecosystem, supporting industry-wide collaboration on software projects that are critical to modern infrastructure. By becoming a member, we are reinforcing our commitment to openness, transparency, and technological excellence.

This strategic move aligns with our mission to provide high-performance, enterprise-grade virtualization solutions through XCP-ng, Xen Orchestra, and Vates VMS. As part of the Eclipse community, we look forward to contributing to ongoing projects, engaging with like-minded organizations, and furthering the adoption of open-source technologies in the enterprise world. In this spirit, we joined the Eclipse Cloud DevTools Working Group.

🗨️
"The Eclipse Cloud Development Tools Working Group drives the evolution and broad adoption of de facto standards for cloud development tools, including language support, extensions, and developer workspace definition. In addition, the group explores the impacts and optimizations for running developer tools in a cloud environment, including scale out / scale-to-zero execution of compute-intensive tasks like CI and testing."
Becoming a member of the Eclipse Foundation, and particularly the Eclipse Cloud DevTools Working Group, marks an important step forward for Vates. We're eager to contribute our experience in virtualization and infrastructure management, and excited about engaging directly with other industry leaders. This collaboration opens opportunities for meaningful discussions and joint innovation around cloud development tools, further enhancing open-source solutions for enterprises worldwide.

Olivier Lambert, Vates' CEO

“We’re excited to welcome Vates to the Eclipse Foundation and the Cloud DevTools working group. With a strong track record in open source virtualization and infrastructure solutions serving industries from large-scale utilities to data centers to streaming services, Vates brings valuable insights to our community. We look forward to collaborating with them to drive innovation and advance cloud development tools in this critical market segment.”

Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation

What this means for our community

Joining the Eclipse Foundation opens new opportunities for collaboration, research, and development. It allows us to:

  • Contribute to existing Eclipse projects that align with our expertise in virtualization, infrastructure, and cloud computing.
  • Engage with a broader open-source ecosystem, nurturing knowledge exchange with developers and organizations shaping the future of technology.
  • Leverage Eclipse’s governance and development model to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of open-source solutions.

Looking ahead

We are thrilled about this new chapter and the opportunities it brings. Our goal remains the same: to deliver innovative, open, and efficient virtualization solutions that empower enterprises worldwide.

Stay tuned as we share more about our contributions and collaborations within the Eclipse Foundation. If you’re interested in learning more about the foundation’s mission and impact, visit eclipse.org.
